Why you should become an intern with Whetstone Fire…
Being an intern with Whetstone Fire provides you with the opportunity to get real life experience within the fire service. As an intern your only job is to learn. You will be shown the basics of all of our apparatuses and be issued a set of firefighting PPE to become familiar with. You will be participating in ride-alongs as well as station maintenance. This position only grants you the opportunity to watch and learn what the life of a first responder is truly like. This program requires 20 hours of training a month to retain intern status. Our interns are given the opportunity to be sponsored through EMT school and Fire 1&2 academy and eventually be offered a paid position within the district, contingent on completion of the program. This position is not a paid position and does not include participation in actual firefighting, rescue, or medical operations, unless certification and proficiency allow.
